ASHTON, CHARLES
Billy's Drift
London, Walker Books. 1994, First. (ISBN: 0744524865). Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. An As New copy in an As New dustjacket which is not price clipped. 287 pages. 'Whatever he tried to look at, whatever he tried to think of, it always came back to one thought: a dog, a dog, a real living dog - a dog of his own..' This is the story of Billy Stuart. It tells of the hours he spends on the hills, and of the dog he's obsessed by, of his shocking accident and the mysterious events surrounding it. But its the story too of the narrator, Theresa Thain, who, eleven years later, recalls these events. Her account is interspersed with extracts from the diary she kept afterwards, as her relationship with Billy, complex and often frustrating, developed. The two stories, though separate, are inextricably linked in their absorbing attempts to get to the heart of a seemingly impenetrable enigma. 2. As New/As New.
